SUMMARY:Last Chance Half Marathon & 10k
DESCRIPTION:We all know that the running season doesn’t end when the snow flies\, but it seems like races do! This is your opportunity to get one final race in before everyone retreats to their treadmills. \nBe There Races presents the 20th annual Last Chance Half Marathon. Not up for a half marathon in November? Or just want a gentler distance? We introduced a 10km in 2019 which became very popular. The 10 km route will be on the same pathways as the half marathon with an earlier turn around point. \nThe start/finish location is at the North Glenmore Park Community Centre and we utilize pathways from the community centre\, around Rockyview hospital and along the reservoir. It is a beautiful\, albeit tough\, course! Please see the route maps for details. Your entry fee includes a t-shirt\, finishers medal\, post race lunch and Annex beer. Yup\, all included! \nWe do have access to indoor space at the community centre. Washrooms are also inside the community centre building. We also have access to one of the rooms upstairs so feel free to be inside when you’re not running.

SUMMARY:Cold Patrol 10k
DESCRIPTION:The Patrol Foundation is excited to present our third annual Cold Patrol 10k; happening Saturday\, November 7th. \nLast year\, The Cold Patrol raised $100\,000+ for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. \nThis year\, we’re doing it all again – a 10k run\, a ‘Après Ski’ themed after party\, and a more ambitious goal of $150\,000 for Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF). This year\, we’re raising money for Theranostics through ACF. Theranostics is an advanced medical approach that combines diagnosis and therapy into a single personalized treatment. The past two years\, we’ve fundraised for PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen)\, which helped to detect prostate cancer. Theranostics uses the same molecule as PSMA to treat the cancer at the same time as detecting it\, and it’s not specific to prostate cancer! \nIn case you missed it – Yes\, it’ll be in November (Brr!). Yes\, we’ll have a bib pick up party and a run after party at Cold Garden (Brrrr!). Yes\, there will be prizes for top finishers & fundraisers (Brrrrrrrr!). Yes\, all funds raised will go to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (Warm!).

SUMMARY:Justice Run
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Undergraduate Access to Justice Club (A2J) at the University of Calgary\, the Justice Run will bring together students\, families\, professionals\, runners\, and members of the broader Calgary community for a 5K run\, 1K community walk\, and community celebration on October 17. \nOur mission is to make conversations around justice\, legal rights\, and available resources more accessible and less intimidating. The law affects every person\, yet many people only begin trying to understand the legal system when they are already facing a difficult situation. We want to help change that by creating opportunities for public legal education\, stronger community connections\, and greater awareness of the organizations and services that exist to support people. \nOur goal is to raise $50\,000 to support access-to-justice initiatives\, legal literacy\, and organizations providing legal and community-based support. \nThe event will also feature speakers\, community organizations\, interactive booths\, activities\, fundraising challenges\, prizes\, raffles\, and opportunities for people to connect directly with those working to make justice more accessible. At its core\, the Justice Run is about bringing people together around a simple idea: people should feel informed\, empowered\, and supported when it comes to understanding their rights and navigating the systems that affect their lives. \nRun for awareness. Walk for change. Move justice forward.

SUMMARY:Orange Shirt Day Run/Walk Calgary
DESCRIPTION:Inaugural 1st annual Run/Walk to honor our little ancestors who did not survive the Residential school era and in support and solidarity for the survivors who fight every day for healing and justice. This event aims to raise funds for the Orangeshirtday.org as well as local grassroots movements including promoting and supporting Indigenous athletes. This will be a combination of pavement and gravel run overlooking the Glenmore Resevoir and Weaslehead Flats starting at North Glenmore Park and includes three distances of 5 & 10 km and an Elder/Kids 2.15 km. The cancellation policy can be found on our website Indigenous Runner | Red Trail Running \nAll are WELCOME! \nNot eleven years ago\, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada had estimated that more than 4\,100 Indigenous children have perished due to “disease or accident while attending a residential school”\, yet we know that number is much much higher. Tragically\, ongoing investigations have revealed thousands more unmarked gravesites near to\, or on the grounds of Canada’s former residential schools. \nPlease join us on Wednesday September 30th in remembrance and to spread the TRUTH and to yell loudly that: \nEVERY CHILD MATTERS
